Hillsong, Bethel Music and The Great Seduction

For the first time, Hillsong United is uniting with Bethel (Redding’s) Music for a “Night of Worship” on July 21 @ the Redding Civic Auditorium. Note that by their participation, Hillsong is effectively declaring their affinity with Bethel Redding, it’s music, and by default, it’s doctrines.

That these two groups should join together is hardly surprising, as both have been at the forefront of the transformation of church music – from the worship of God, to effectively worshiping “worship” music – From music that exalts God, into music that exalts an experiential “encounter” with “the presence”, and which magnifies feelings and emotions.

The Word of God says that: “God is a Spirit: those who worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” – John 4:24 And – “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” – John 17:17; Jesus proclaims: “The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” – John 6:63

Many have apparently forgotten that the Holy Spirit will not magnify Himself or some alleged experience, but will magnify Jesus! “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me…” – John 16:13-14

“The Spirit expressly says, that in latter times some shall depart from the faith, *giving heed to SEDUCING spirits, and doctrines of devils!” – 1Tim. 4:1

“Giving heed to” implies active “LISTENING to”; And, the Gk. Word used for “seducing” spirits is planos : meaning ‘imposter” or “deceiver”… “seducing”. Now, consider: The word used in 1Cor. 14:25 – [G4352] proskuneo …to crouch down or prostrate…worship; fr. G4314 <>> the same root as the “giving heed in 1Tim.4:

Once the enemy gets you in the subjective, sensual, emotional arena, where God’s Word is no longer the objective foundation – Then you can be manipulated, being led by seductive sensations and feelings, and discernment become almost impossible.

It has been observed that much of the contemporary Christian music by Hillsong, Bethel and Jesus Culture, etc. has more in common with the songs of the Trance genre, than with genuine Christian worship.

It is no secret that Bethel Redding teaches the doctrinal aberrations of the New Apostolic Reformation [NAR]. Their practices are also deviant – and from “grave sucking” to “fire tunnels” and the shaking and quaking of the Toronto “blessing”, etc. – Bethel attendees have been shown exhibiting some of the most bizarre occultic manifestations. This is the ripened fruit of Bethel.

Consider what Bethel Music says of itself, that they are: “a worship ministry formed as an extension of Bethel (Redding) Church and founded by Brian and Jenn Johnson”.  A tree is surely known by it’s fruit.

Remember what Hillsong Worship Leader JD revealed on 1/28/2015 – “We [Hillsong Worship] are about fulfilling our Senior Pastor’s [Brian Houston] vision – not our own” and that “As amazing as our creative ideas might be, if they don’t ultimately line up [NOT with scripture, but ) what our Senior Pastor and leaders want, then we happily put them aside… Our worship teams EXIST TO BUILD THE CHURCH!”

Yet somehow all this goes out the window, and discernment is set aside, as their seductive music is extolled as “beautiful” and “wonderful” worship, and is played in bible teaching churches across the globe.

C.H. Fisher (1), in his Truth Keepers blog states: “Many of the ones that rush to associate with Bethel Music in their concerts might never accept the bizarre shenanigans of Bethel Church. The alluring music has seduced them into to associating rather than exposing. Further, Bethel Music’s siren songs have the hypnotic effect of covering up one hard fact. If the spirits of darkness are in the source, then the same spirits are in the flow. “Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening?” (James 3:11) “A bad tree cannot bear good fruit.” (Matthew 7:15-20).”

And: “Bethel Music does not go around the country putting on concerts to showcase talent, to entertain people, or to make lots of money. The so-called worship team is on the road for one purpose. That purpose is to unite people with the spirits that comprise its source, Bethel Church.”

And, Instead of exposing the darkness, “professing Christians are bonding with Bethel Music in a concert. They weave and sway with the music, their spirits open and receptive, being stroked by the ebb and flow of the rhythms and hypnotic sounds.” They unwittingly are fellowshiping with demons.

The use of pleasant sounding music to seduce and win converts is not a new tactic. Author Brandon Hines notes: “How was it, then, that Arius spread his [Arian Heresy] doctrine, if it was as clearly venomous as it is? Photius of Constantinople wrote, “Arius, after his secession from the church, composed several songs to be sung by sailors, and by millers, and by travelers along the high road, and others of the same kind, which he adapted to certain tunes, as he thought suitable in each separate case, and thus by degrees seduced the minds of the unlearned by the attractiveness of his songs…” – Enchanted and Ensnared by Music 11/31/16

If the theology of a church is aberrant, it’s music should not be used public worship. A biblical theology of worship is concerned with the true worship of God. True biblical worship must be reverent (Hebrews 12:28). We must understand who is being worshiped. God is holy, just, and perfect. We are sinners saved by grace coming before a holy God on the basis of our Redeemer. worship must be “in truth,” that is, our worship must be properly informed (John 4:24). Unless we have correct knowledge of the God we worship, we will not be worshiping in truth. Those who wish to worship biblically must worship God as He is revealed in Scripture.

If the church teaches and practices false doctrines, it music will, by default, be worshiping a false, or counterfeit Christ.

In the same chapter where the apostle Paul reveals that the enemy “Transforms himself into an angel of light. (and that) Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves…” (2Cor. 11:14-5) he also warns believers that: “I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted—you may well put up with it!: – 2Cor. 11:4-5

The Wild Goose Festival: Contemplative Meets Queer Theology

Held annually, the Wild Goose Festival is said to be “focused on justice, spirituality, music and the arts… (and) rooted in the Christian tradition” and is popular among progressive Christians and many involved with the emerging church movement. It is the only Christian music festival in the U.S. that caters to “theological liberals”…

Wild Goose Fest 2017 also prominently featured Shack author William Paul Young and the contemplatives Richard Rohr, Phyllis Ticlke and Tony Campolo, along with new age speakers like Mirabai Starr, and others. Their website is here: http://wildgoosefestival.org/

The following video is edited from some of the Wild Goose promo vids. http://

The Wild Goose Festival is affiliated with the aberrant group “Convergence“. Convergence is the brain child of ultra-liberal emergent apostate Brian McLaren. McLaren, the author of “A New Kind of Christian” – led the ceremony for his son’s same-sex wedding in 2012. [see http://apprising.org/2012/09/24/brian-mclaren-leads-ceremony-at-sons-same-sex-wedding/].

The Convergence charter informs us: “We believe in Jesus and the good news of the reign, commonwealth, or ecosystem of God… We seek to honor, interpret, and apply the Bible in fresh and healing ways, aware of the damaging ways the Bible has been used in the past… We seek the common good, locally and globally, through churches of many diverse forms… We build inclusive partnerships across gaps between the powerful and vulnerable – including disparities based on wealth, gender, race and ethnic identity, education, religion, and sexuality …”

In an 2006 interview with Lief Hansen, McLaren stated: “The doctrine of hell basically says…At the end, God gets his way through coercion, violence, intimidation and domination – just like every other kingdom. The cross isn’t the center then – the cross is almost a distraction and false advertising for God.”

Rick Warren’s Saddleback Church Promoting Contemplative Rituals

Rick Warren and his Saddleback Church are now promoting a “Journey With Jesus Tour“, which features Catholic Stations of the Cross, with images for contemplative meditation. The stations are set up at Saddleback Church on a trail circuit as a mini-pilgrimage for believers. The concept of “Stations of the Cross” and the images involved, was designed specifically to facilitate contemplative mysticism. This is but the latest in a long line of indicators of Warren’s Rome-ward bound ecumenicism.

Priscilla Shirer & Mark Batterson Reveal Their Contemplative Affinities

For those who are not aware, Alpha (originally the ‘Alpha Course’) is contemplative at it’s core, and was created and developed by the heretical Holy Trinity Brompton [HTB] – the home of the European wave of the aberrant ‘Holy Laughter Revival’. Nicky Gumbel is HTB’s leader, and face of Alpha. Video used in this post is from the 2017 Alpha Leadership Conference [LC17].

EmergentWatch and Friends Falsely Accused of “Slander”

This article is written in response to the unwarranted attack upon my friend Eric Stuckey, by Holland Davis [Calvary Chapel San Clemente] in his FB article posted 6/2/2017, entitled: “EMERGENT WATCH OR EMERGENT SLANDER?See: https://www.facebook.com/hollanddavis/posts/10212281628851463

First of all, Eric Stuckey is not the owner of the EmergentWatch blog, nor did he write the article exposing the “Pastors Together” group. Eric only posted or “shared” it on his Facebook timeline. Eric is most certainly not guilty of anything, particularly regarding the EW blog. He is now being falsely accused by Davis for “slander” and for allegedly lying.

Eric had only been involved initially with my EW blog, and wrote two articles, none of which criticized anyone. He has not been involved, or written anything since then – over 3 years ago. Eric wrote only two articles for the EW blog, in the first months of it’s creation.

1- “Noting the Dividers and Offenders“, on 11/16/2013, wherein he shows the biblical precedents for naming names of those involved in false teachings. 2- “Biblical Outreaches” of 12/17/2013. Neither of these articles had anything to do with Holland Davis or the PT group.

I have stated publicly on several occasions on my Facebook page that I -Mark Jefferies – am the writer of the posts on EmergentWatch, and the creator of the related videos on You Tube, under the screen name 4Philemon.

It was after careful research that the “Pastors Together“, of 1/24/2016 post was posted. It was based on publicly available screen captured evidence which is now a matter of public record. I posted 2 posts in early 2016 on Holland Davis and the PT group: 1- 1/24/2016 – https://emergentwatch.com/2016/01/24/pastors-together-a-fellowship-of-errors/

2- The EW post of 3/26/2016 on HD & his “Pastors Together” group was simply a posting of my You Tube video, “Pastors Together – Together in Ecumenical Apostasy“. https://emergentwatch.com/2016/03/26/pastors-together-together-in-ecumenical-apostasy/

I did not personally slander Holland. I did surmise from the available data, that Holland “appeared to be” the leader of the PT group, as he is the one actively promoting it on social media. I also did point out his reposting of an IHOP post that was highly questionable, and this post has since been removed from his page.

I stand behind my research in these posts. It is a matter of historical record, as the screen captured documentation remains valid. How screen captured documentation can be interpreted as “slander” is beyond me.

Although the PT group page has removed the “What we Believe” page – that linked them to the ecumenical Lausanne Covenant has been removed, it appears that all of the same churches that were involved at the time I wrote the blog piece are still currently involved.

Rather than be accountable to the public for their actions and statements, some here have misused Matt. 18, in an attempt to intimidate believers into silence. This is an abuse of pastoral authority, and disingenuous to say the least.

PS: Note that some of the people in positions of power, whose unbiblical activities have been exposed by EmergentWatch are apparently now feeling threatened enough that they will resort to these false accusations; Even enlisting the help of as many supporters as they can, in an attempt to discredit and silence EmergentWatch – so they can continue their activities without fear of exposure. Again, the documentation on this blog speaks for itself.

Attention – EmergentWatch viewers:

It has recently come to my attention that the EW blog server (WordPress.com) is placing ads that are unaffiliated with, and unsupported by me or my blog – And that some of these ads are from various groups that may include false teachings. I compose, and usually view my articles on my desktop, wherein ads are not displayed. However, when I recently viewed my blog on my mobile device, I saw ads for books by David C. Pack, a disciple of Herbert W. Armstrong (Worldwide Church of God) Be advised that the doctrines taught by this group and their affiliates are aberrant. This is just one example of bad ads being inserted in my blog.

See: https://www.jashow.org/articles/false-teaching/armstrongism/armstrongism/

See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Restored_Church_of_God

and see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbert_W._Armstrong

As I can’t constantly monitor, nor have I control over, what ads are being placed on my blog – let the viewers be advised that ads seen on my blog are not mine, nor do I endorse them.

Things That Matter – Unity above Doctrine?

Thursday 5/25/2017 – Brian Brodersen brought Mark Foreman of North Coast Calvary in to promote his ecumenical “One Church” initiative, on his “Things that Matter” program – entitled: “on the Importance of Working with Churches from Different Evangelical Traditions“.

The following is edited from Calvarychapel.com’s 21 min. video posted on 5/25/2017:

See https://calvarychapel.com/resources/article/view/things-that-matter-mark-foreman-on-the-importance-of-working-with-churches-from-different-evangelical-traditions/#.WSeztG7c88Q.facebook  and see: https://vimeo.com/219026292

The description on the Vimeo vid says it, “focuses on the importance of pastors recognizing that we are all part of one church and cultivating love and unity in the larger body of Christ.”

At the 16 minute mark, Foreman explains: When you move beyond doctrine, and you find out that we’re 99% the same and you realize, they love Jesus and this is my blood brother. So, I would say that that’s step one, Step two is to actually believe the New testament (like it says to join with apostates?) …All of our statements of faith have nothing about unity… To actually believe that two are better than one… The amount of leverage (in the world, on social issues) we have when we begin to join hands…”

There appears to be no information publicly available on the “One Church” group in San Diego, but it seems to be very similar to Holland Davis’ “Pastor’s Together” ecumenical affair, which   I reported on here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjC3oDNDswU

Foreman’s history: Foreman has been of the forefront of the emergent/ contemplative wave sweeping into Calvary Chapel churches. With his degree in Theology from the apostate Fuller Seminary, Foreman is touted as “an internationally renown speaker.”

Some of Foreman’s highlights are:

Featured speaker at the 2013 Catalyst West, alongside contemplative guru Dallas Willard.

2015 – Foreman’s NCCC Promotes Roma Downey’s “A.D. The Bible” miniseries on his FB.

NCCC Winter Women’s Book club featured Brennan Manning’s Ragamuffin Gospel. 2015 – CCNC Women’s Ministry hosted contemplative author Jill Briscoe, and have used the contemplative book “Sacred Chaos” by Tricia Rhodes, in the group (2015)

NCCC’s bookstore features numerous contemplative authors, inc: Brennan Manning, Dallas Willard, Tricia Rhodes, Ann Voskamp, and others.

Foreman’s NCCC has hosted events with:

Willow Creek’s Lynn Hybels, Contemplative author Jill Briscoe, and

Sami Awad of the ‘Holy Land Trust and other questionable chararters.

Foreman’s 2008 book, “Wholly Jesus” attempts to apply a “holistic” theology to Jesus Christ – And that Jesus “Came to redeem humanity physically, mentally, spiritually and culturally.” It proposes that “A fresh understanding of [NOTE] THE *HOLISTIC REDEEMER provides a roadmap to the wholeness that many people seek”, etc. The book is also replete with citations by the top contemplative gurus.

The fact that Brodersen felt is necessary to bring in Foreman and attempt to legitimatize his ministry, again shows that Brian is coming out of the closet for ecumenical and emergent/ contemplative doctrines and practices. Apparently, what is not on the list of “Things that Matter”, is genuine biblical doctrine.
